Action 4 Chalvey joins Race Online 2012 in bid to get everyone online by the London Olympics

When you think about all the things we use the internet for, it’s hard to imagine that 10 million people in the UK have never been online. Worryingly, 4 million of these are also the country’s most socially excluded. They’ve never Googled, found an online bargain or been emailed photos of a newborn.
Action 4 Chalvey doesn’t think this is fair. That’s why we’ve become a Race Online 2012 partner.
Led by the UK's Digital Champion, Martha Lane Fox, Race Online 2012 is challenging organisations to get the UK as close to 100% online as possible by the London Olympics.
Total benefits to the UK will be in excess of £22bn (data supplied by PWC) and households will save an average of £560 a year. Most importantly, everyone will save time, money and be included in the digital revolution, with all its possibilities for connection and inclusion.
Personally endorsed by Mohammed Ahmed, our chair, we’ve now signed up to do our bit to impact the 10 million people in the UK who are currently offline, particularly the 4 million socially excluded people. We are going to help to get as many residences online as possible, with help of various other groups we hope to be able to offer free training, internet sessions and help to get people connected by offering professional advice.
Being able to use the internet changes and improves lives. For example, Anna-Marie Cope from Nottingham said:
“I thought computers were for the upper-classes. The World Wide Web is immense: there’s no stopping what you can do. I want all my friends to have the opportunity I’ve had to have a total transformation.”
Join us as a Race Online 2012 Official Partner and do your bit to help the millions of people whose lives could be enhanced through the ability to use the internet. Any organisation, large or small, can join up and contribute: whether by training staff, encouraging clients to take their first steps online or galvanising their [STAFF AND/OR VOLUNTEERS] to help Pass IT on to someone they know. And if you’re already doing great work in this area, you can tell Race Online 2012 about your experiences to help inspire others to get involved.
We’re supporting this initiative in order to build a creative, networked, inspired and truly remarkable UK: and so can you. It’s a fantastic opportunity to join a movement that already has support from the likes of Skype, Google, McDonalds, Youthnet and Abilitynet.
Once you’re on board, you can download a certificate of Official Partnership and you‘ll get access a host of special materials designed to help you organise and promote their initiative, including logos, press releases and quotes. There are also white-label materials developed by UK online centres that teach anyone to ‘Pass IT On’ to friends and family.
It really is that simple. It doesn’t require money or sponsorship, just a little time. Together, we have an extraordinary and remarkable opportunity to build a truly world leading Digital UK. Please help. To find out more and to join up now, visit www.raceonline2012.org
